Only time will tell.
Also this week I was finally called back to work, just while starting to build a decorated wall out of river rock between the neighbor’s house and ours. My new schedule only gives me time for a few morning hours, IF I can get up that early. We shall see.
My only other complaint is trying to send my cover artist money for the work that she has done. This conferral box and sites keep denying my request. It is not like the funds are not there, and I just feel so bad for my artist to have to wait. I mean world transfers must go on all the time, why is this being so difficult. It is worse than pulling teeth, and makes me so upset, and frustrated. So glad I have a wall to take it out on.
That is it for this week, because I am tired and just want to relax in the hot tub, and go to bed. Next week may be more interesting, so until then, enjoy your week and remember; Be nice to a stranger, they might just need only a smile for the day.
rickkurtisbooks

April 19

http://www.rickkurtisbooks.com/weekly-news/april-19

http://www.rickkurtisbooks.com/weekly-news/april-19#comments

Uncategorized

rApril 19Everyone Makes Mistakes: I use a pen and tablet to write my books, and sometimes cannot even read my own handwriting, let alone my poor spelling, but over the years with over 50 books, I have improved. With it all on paper I transfer it to the computer by using a program called Dragon, where I read my words and it types them in. The problem is that because of my “Wisconsin Accent” the Dragon sometimes puts the wrong words, or misses a lot of ed, s, and the. So chapter by chapter, I read through and try to find and correct things as I go along.
When I have finished, I read through the whole thing, line by line, checking again for mistakes. Not Once, not twice, but three times, going forward and backwards. But in my mind I know what it is supposed to say and blindly miss them. Spell check and grammar programs help too with little blue lines, red lines, and suggestions. Awesome, the age we live in.
I just finished the Wild Boys V. Coming of Age, and used a new device called Narrator that reads the book back to me out loud, line by line. I thought I did well, but found 117 mistakes in 36,418 words. That is like less than one per page.
Now it is printed, and goes to my wife to read out loud, and to find some more, and believe you me, she will. After all of that, it goes to my editor for some more. When I get it back to make the corrections, sometimes I do find some more that my wife and I missed, and even the editor. I just think that my stories are SOOO good that they get into the book and can’t stop reading, and blow right passed the mistakes. (Is that the right, passed, past, pass??? I am sure someone will notice.)
All I am saying is, you can’t edit enough when doing it yourself. Heck, I even have to make corrections in Daniel Peters, Ace Reporter; B-29 Found, before placing it back on the market. A book that has been published and edited twice by professionals, and has been on the market for three years until the contract came to an end, and the vanity pub cancelled it. PULLED IT OFF, instead of transferring it over. Thanks for nothing, Fulton Books. Oh, I mean, Thanks for taking my money, and not doing anything. DON’T get me started.
I know I may have some mistakes, but get off the high horse and just enjoy the great story. Simple mistakes many people blow right by anyway, unless you think you are perfect. Well, you aren’t. There was only one man who was, and he has the holes in his hands and feet to prove it.
Thanks for reading my rant, and keep watch for my next book coming out soon. Just waiting for my cover concept. Check out my many others while you wait, 17 so far. They all have great reviews, at least from readers by word of mouth, or a Face book comment if not an amazon review.
Until next week, have fun, and stay safe.
Rick Kurtis Books, and PJ Richards

April 12

http://www.rickkurtisbooks.com/weekly-news/april-12

http://www.rickkurtisbooks.com/weekly-news/april-12#comments

Uncategorized

Last week I did not post. Today we welcome a new author, PJ Richards. Let's give him a warm hello.
PJ RICHARDS INTERVIEW

Welcome to Rick Kurtis books. Today we welcome a new member to our team.
PJ Richards is a children’s author, with over thirty up-and-coming books for children. They are geared for young and mid-grade readers even though many adults have enjoyed the messages that these books have to give. Welcome, Mister Richards. Let’s break the ice. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Good morning, Rick. I would be glad to. I grew up on a farm in southern Wisconsin, right outside a little town called Columbus. I’ve always wanted to please everyone, and work hard on doing so. I remember when I was around five or six, I put on a whole bunch of clothes, and preformed a clown act in front of my entire family. At the age of fourteen, I began to write. Some of my writings were even held by teachers, so they could show future classes. I grew up and managed not to work in one particular place for too long. I have always excelled, and soon became my own boss, and self-employed. Now I just have plenty of time to write.

You said you started to write at the age of fourteen. How did this come about?

All through grade school, I hated to read. But I always bought books from the schools’ book-fair to hide the fact that I had a dyslexic reading problem. I would sit at home and read, trying to improve myself, and fumbled through many books, but always lost interest. Through the years my reading improved, and I came across a few books that I really enjoyed reading them all the way to the end. I think that is what inspired me to write. I had so many stories in my mind, and tried to write them down on paper. Years went by, and the writing stopped for a long time, but my mind continued with scribbles here and there to help retain those thoughts. Finally, my life slowed down, and I once again picked up a pen.

So, now you write. Why children’s books?

I know, right? Children’s books are the hardest books to write. A child grows up so fast. Younger ones have to have a lot of pictures, and very few words. There are industry-standards to follow in order to form a child’s reading ability, and their young minds. The industry hasn’t wavered, but the children have changed. I write to bring joy to children, and give them something that is easy to read, and exciting. I want them to learn and grow up with good honest values, and morals. They can be tough, but also learn and know the difference between right and wrong. Children now days are learning to read earlier than we ever did. When I began, we read Dick and Jane in first grade. Children now days are reading adventure paperbacks, 360 page novels by the age of ten. I want a child to be a child, and give them books that they can enjoy. Books that they can share with their friends. Children learn to be adults way too soon, which I don’t mind, we all have to grow up, but I want them to remember to keep that child in them alive with honest feelings, laughter, and fun. I myself have never let go of my child like nature.

That is very noble. You have said you have over thirty books. Why are they not out there already?

Most children publishers are set in their ways, and have their very own in-house authors. Other publishers are bombarded with over 10,000 book submissions per month, and pay publishers will want an arm and a leg, just to sell you back your own book. Heaven knows, I have tried for years, but now with the Internet, Amazon, and self-publish, it has become easier, and you don’t have to jump through hoops for only five percent return on your hard work for sales. I did my research, learned the computer, and I am working on going from the paper pad to the word program. I am putting a lot of effort in the long tedious process of formatting, copyright, and all the drawings myself. Well, at least I hope.

So when can we expect a book?”

My first book will be coming out soon, it is called, Dick Flick, super adventurer; Lost in time. He is a private detective who carries a bull-whip, and always solves the case. It’s the first book with a second in the series called, Dick Flick, super adventurer; In the Galapagos. Both are written, and waiting for their cover art.

Out of thirty, why those two?”

I think because everyone used to love Dick Tracy, the Hardy Boys, and Nancy Drew. What better way to start with a two book series about a super adventurer detective.

Do you have any other series?”

As a matter of fact, yes. I have a seven book series filled with adventures, puzzles, and games that children can play later when they get with their friends. I also have a twenty-one book series that are geared for younger children to learn how to behave and how to act in certain situations. This one is being followed up with another twenty book series.

Wow, you have been busy. Being that you are releasing Dick Flick first, what inspired you to write them?

Both of those books came to me in two separate dreams. I woke up, and had to write them down. Then I thought about the character all day long, filling in the blanks. It was fun, and the books make you think. They give you real knowledge, so children can learn. I make up the story, but a lot of true facts are in many of my books.

Could you give us a little taste on what they are about?

In the first book, lost in time, Dick investigates a strange little man who is a university professor. He follows him into a warehouse where a light is coming out from the floor. One thing leads to another, and they both get sucked in and end up in a different dimension. They are now stuck, and have to find their way back. In this new place there are three foot, black rats, caves and caverns with twenty foot drop-offs, and mysterious characters, and an Indian princess.

Okay, what about the second book?

The other one is called, In the Galapagos. The United States Secret Service approaches Dick in a park for his help to find that same professor who has now been kidnapped. With a rookie partner, Dick has to follow the clues, which leads him to the Galapagos Islands, where he finds a giant lizard, the professor, unknowingly, is being held by his captors, and a new strain of highbred tiger lilies for medical research purposes.

Sounds interesting. Obviously you have had people read your books. What have they said about those two?

With the first book, they said they were confused or little baffled, but it all made sense by the time they came to the end. One woman said she could not read it when it came to the part where they walked into the cave, because she is claustrophobic. I took that as a good sign that my writing had enough punch to make her feel afraid. The other book had praises more like, while reading the book, I felt like I was there. I want to go back. It made me want to travel to the Galapagos Islands, and vacation there. You made it sound so interesting. I loved the humor and how Dick figured out the clues.

Our time is about up. Is there anything else that you would like to tell your readers?

Yes. Just keep watch for all my other books coming soon. I want to at least release ten books this year. Go onto Rickkurtisbooks.com and sign up to follow along for new releases. You will be able to purchase Dick Flick from there, or on Amazon and Kindle. I also want to thank you for this great opportunity by letting me join your team. Thank you.

That's it for today. Enjoy your your week and we will see you again next time. Don't forget to give a thumbs up and or a comment or share to help spread the news. Thank you. This book came naturally, and flowed from my pen without stopping. It is filled with excitement and intrigue, tying them in with their childhood adventures from the first three books. It came together so well that I didn’t want the series to stop, and so I didn’t. I came up with an ending that left it open for a fifth book. That book, I thought, would now end the series with, The Wild Boys V; Coming of Age, but again while talking with others, and writing blogs about the boys’ adventures, I thought I might, and probably will do, one more final book, bringing the boys back to the farm as a family reunion when they are much older. Time will only tell and what adventure could I bring with them having their own children?
This book, The Wild Boys IV; In Deep Trouble is now available for your pleasure on Amazon and Kindle Select. After enjoying this book please feel free to take a moment and post your review on Amazon, so other people may enjoy your honest opinion.
Many other books are available on rickkurtisbooks.com for your reading pleasure. Have a great week with the new weather.
Rick Kurtis Books

Back cover
Book number four is a continuation from saving the twins from a Dayson alien, and they still need to tell their parents. Everything smooths over and they go on a family vacation to a dirt bike rally. Four members of the family get trapped in a submarine at the bottom of Lake Michigan, and the boys have to figure out how they can help the local FBI.
Half synopsis
After saving the world, once again, from a Dayson invasion, they have the responsibility to explain how they rescued the twins who were held hostage in the third book. Before their parents came home, Chris piled dirt up in the field behind the house in order to practice jumping with his dirt bike. The parents came home from vacation, and the boys had separate, private talks to explain their actions. Everything turns out, and the next thing you know, they are all heading out to Frankfort, Michigan for a dirt bike rally competition.
While Chris is enrolling for the race, the others are enjoying a carnival. Half of them decide to take a submarine ride down in Lake Michigan. Half way through the tour, the sub goes out of control after an explosion. It travels farther away and sinks to the bottom of the lake with no power and no communication. The word gets out and the bike race is postponed. Everyone is in search for the missing sub.
Chris wants to help, but has no idea on how. While sitting in his stupor, he hears a faint sound coming from his alien translator. It is his brother talking on the submarine. Quite by accident, they find out that with their medallion and translator, they can communicate to Rick in the sub. Mike does the math and pinpoints a radius on were the sub could be found. The search resumes, and their Uncle Jerry rents a boat, and the two brothers and their dad head out with Jerry to search. Mike brings along his sister’s new toy, the alien remote spaceship that has a camera and can go under water.

March 15

http://www.rickkurtisbooks.com/weekly-news/march-15

http://www.rickkurtisbooks.com/weekly-news/march-15#comments

Uncategorized

The Wild Boys III; Twins Held Hostage Bringing a conclusion to The Wild Boys seemed natural to write. It felt as natural as my own children growing up so fast. This book delved into some things that we have all faced in so many ways. Going from childhood fun to adult hood problems, the boys need to figure things out for themselves during times of trouble. It also deals on how parents don’t have control over their maturing, children’s decisions, and either need help, or an outside influence to help their children to understand.

I really don’t know where the thought came from, but in my mind, these actions just felt right. I still wanted the humor and the charm throughout. I don’t think anybody should give up their childhood. Life is too short for that. Just put it off to the side and buckled down when you work, but lighten up on your free time. Also, don’t go overboard, because adult troubles are not just a spanking. You still have to work in order to support yourself.
That’s why I brought in responsibility. Be ready for the consequences of your actions. I made them independent, because it is fiction, so they are the heroes, once again. True to life, go for help, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Nine times out of ten, someone else can handle the situation much better than you. They can bring in resources that you don’t even have access to. Wow, preachy, preachy. Let’s get back to the book.
Three boys are growing up. They still want to have fun, but find themselves in a situation which in turn, helps them to realize life is not all fun and games. There is heart-ache and punishment. Good lessons to learn and another space adventure to solve. This book is about family. The boys take on responsibilities and have to grow up fast, making decisions on their own. It has heartwarming moments and filled with thrills and suspense. The boys learn a lot in this book and hopefully they will grow up to be fine members of society.
I do hope that the people who read my books will also be moved enough that they too will learn and maybe change to the better side of their own lives. I know because, for me and my children’s mother that our sons and daughters grew up like the children in my books, and I can’t be any more proud of all of them than I am right now. And they didn’t even have a police chief, Johnson. Does that make any sense? My readers liked this book so much they said, “You have to make another one.” Which I did, The Wild Boys IV; In Deep Trouble, which in turn gave me an idea for book number five; Coming of age, still in the writing phase.
Get your order in today for the new release, and let me know what you think by filling out a review on Amazon. It was quite a far distance, but hopefully, Chris could keep the alien busy long enough to save the twins.
Chris carried the device in the pie tin and sat down past the playhouse, while Mike hid close by, sitting on his quad. Everything remained quiet and peaceful. The birds chirped while they waited. It didn’t take long before the birds stopped, then flew away. Chris looked up and saw a small dot dropping out from the clouds.
It grew larger as it drew near. Much to everyone’s surprise, the ship landed farther away than before. Chris couldn’t see the girls and waited. The alien opened the hatch and stepped out, walking alone toward Chris. Chris stood up, holding the device in his hand, while the alien approached.
Rick snuck between the corn rows and came out crawling toward the ship. The alien approached with his hands out, but Chris held back. With the translating device, Chris said, “Where are the girls?”
The alien pointed to the ship. Chris said, “The girls first, out and away from the ship, then you can have this.”
The alien squinted with a vicious look and held his hand out firm. Chris yelled, “No!”
The alien tried to grab Chris, but he ducked. He turned and saw Rick approaching the ship. Rick could see the twins tied up in the back seat. The alien lunged again at Chris and grabbed the device. He then ran toward his ship, and Chris yelled, “Rick, watch out!”
Who would get to the ship first? Rick sprinted toward the ship, and Mike started up his quad, while Chris ran behind the tall thin alien. Even though the alien had long legs, he was no match for a quad. Mike passed him and stopped to cut him off, but the alien simply jumped over top of…

march 8

http://www.rickkurtisbooks.com/weekly-news/march-8

http://www.rickkurtisbooks.com/weekly-news/march-8#comments

Uncategorized

The Wild Boys II; Saving the Fourth of JulyMany nights I sat after work writing down a story for my children while they still live in another state. My nights were lonely and I had plenty of time to think. My kids said I should write them a story, so I could read it to them when I came home. I really didn’t know what I was doing, but I wrote the cutest story about my boys and their sisters getting caught up in an adventure with aliens. I put them in the best setting that I knew, Columbus, Wisconsin, where I grew up.

I wrote the book and darned that I later found out that it was actually written like a screen play. Everyone who read it said it should be on the silver screen. I tried Disney, but Mr. Isner said they only used inside writers. So I took writing classes, and turned it into a book.
I didn’t know anything about the computer, or publishing, so I found a pay publisher and turned my work over. After five months, the book was on the market. They asked me if I wanted a subtitle to draw more attention on what the book was about, so I said, A Space Adventure. I am very glad that I did, because this book started a series that has stretched to five books about the Wild Boys and their sisters. Book Five, Coming of age is still in the writing phase, but the first four are on amazon and kindle, and are selling worldwide.
I had over 6,000 hits alone on the first day of release just on the cover. It might be priced a little high being that it was set by the publishing company. I have to see how I can change it, although I happened to see it on sale on ebay for $19.
If you have boys who love to read adventure books, this is a great collection, and hopefully will make it to the screen. Until next week, have fun.
Rick Kurtis Books

EXCERPT:
…Walking into the crash area, they had to climb over and under a few fallen trees. There were about ten trees that were sheared off, mangled or maimed. There were pieces of craft and glass-string wire stretched out all over the place. The main body of the ship had bounced into the ground and out, leaving a deep hole. It came to rest tilted upright against a big acorn tree. The boys climbed through the mess to get to the hull of the ship on the passenger side. They wanted to see if there were any survivors.
They all walked up to the ship on the right hand side of the vessel. The hatch was broken open, leaving the control panels and the seats visible. They could see all the instruments but no victims. All they found was this yellow oil like stuff splattered about the left side of the cockpit.
Chris looked at the craft, “Hey, bucket seats.” He climbed in, sat in the passenger seat on the right, tapped the instrument panels and grabbed the stick.
Rick scratched his head, “Where’s the pilot? Someone had to be flying this thing.”
Mike went to look in the woods pass the acorn tree, “Maybe he flew out over here?”
Rick started around the back side of the ship and examined it as he went. Chris turned to look back at Rick, “Maybe it was unmanned.” Just then a long arm with a big wide hand reached over from the left side of the craft and grabbed Chris’ arm. It was covered with the sticky yellow oil and attached to the crash victim. Chris turned back to look and screamed in terror, “Hey! Let go.” But the hand didn’t let go.

February 22

http://www.rickkurtisbooks.com/weekly-news/february-22

http://www.rickkurtisbooks.com/weekly-news/february-22#comments

Uncategorized

Okay.
