Lesson 43
Promo

Welcome back to class. Things are busy on the home front with writing, promoting, and searching for new information. I hope you have found plenty of other sites to help further your career in writing. After reading questions on group pages, I decided to share a promo that I made up for one of my books. These can be posted to draw people into purchasing your book. Some days I just go off with a random thought, and this is what I came up with. Let’s begin.

Promo for Twisted Bwitch
They say music makes the movie. But what makes a book? In a movie, the music runs in the background almost all the way through. It directs your attention to a climatic-scene, filling you with suspense. You may not even realize that it is there, but you wait with great anticipation to see what lies around the corner, and BAM, you jump out from your seat, even though you knew something to be amiss.
With a book, it has to rely on the words written, and to be a page turner. There is no music, and you can’t rely on word spacing in order to make it to the next page. What a dilemma. In a writing class that I took, our professors wanted us to think of a fem noir, (that’s French for dark, erotic, mystery.) They said to stick with four or less characters in a situation and add a twist. To increase our knowledge and skill, they wanted us to write it as a screenplay. A screenplay takes out a lot of the description, but the layout will drive you crazy.
Once again with my thoughts, I had a dream out of nowhere that fell right into my lap, and flowed from my pen like water. It had three main characters in a set of mystery, intrigue, sex, drama, suspense, murder, mayhem, and a double twist with an open ending for sequel. Who did what, who betrayed whom? It turned out dark, mysterious, and super thrilling.
The hard part is that everyone and his brother have a story they want as a movie, and they carry the screenplays around with them in their back pocket. It is 100 times harder to convince someone in Hollywood, or any studio to produce your screenplay into a movie. At least with a book you might get a few people that want to read it. Nevertheless, I completed the whole screenplay even though they only wanted the first four pages in the beginning, and four pages of the ending. I submitted it off to about fifty agencies and producers, and production companies, and had no feedback whatsoever.
I let my wife read it, and she actually jumped while reading certain scenes. My friends who read it enjoyed it so much, and said they could still visualize the house, and the scenery. They also commented that they would like to read it as a book, which fills in all those blanks. They were excited to tell me, “My heart raced when_______ (I am not going to tell you.) To which I replied, “Heck, my heart raced when I wrote it.” It made me elated, so I took their advice, and embellished the screenplay into a book.
It is filled with pages of action, heart pounding excitement, along with passion, deceit, and the unknown. It is a concept I have never seen before, but if it was a movie, I guarantee you that the entire audience, men and women would jump out from their seats. They would talk about it for days.
They always say the book was better than the movie. Probably because there is no music to direct you. It is all you, where your mind gets caught up into reading the action, the drama, and you have to continue to read what comes next. Then BAM, it hits you. You jump up, take a breath, and walk around the room before continuing to read.
Twisted Bwitch is one of my favorites, and is now on sale on……… I hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it for you. Drop me a review on Amazon, good or bad, all comments are welcome. Also give me a like, and a share, or post a comment below, and enjoy your week.
Don’t forget to watch out for the trick-or-treaters this coming Saturday. You could give them each a scary little story and let them know about your book. Also, don’t forget to vote if you are an American. No matter where you are, take pride in your country.
Thank you again, and happy writing.
