Everyone Makes Mistakes: I use a pen and tablet to write my books, and sometimes cannot even read my own handwriting, let alone my poor spelling, but over the years with over 50 books, I have improved. With it all on paper I transfer it to the computer by using a program called Dragon, where I read my words and it types them in. The problem is that because of my “Wisconsin Accent” the Dagon sometimes puts the wrong words, or misses a lot of ed, s, and the. So chapter by chapter, I read through and try to find and correct things as I go along. When I have finished, I read through the whole thing, line by line, checking again for mistakes. Not Once, not twice, but three times, going forward and backwards. But in my mind I know what it is supposed to say and blindly miss them. Spell check and grammar programs help too with little blue lines, red lines, and suggestions. Awesome, the age we live in. I just finished the Wild Boys V. Coming of Age, and used a new device called Narrator that reads the book back to me out loud, line by line. I thought I did well, but found 117 mistakes in 36,418 words. That is like less than one per page. Now it is printed, and goes to my wife to read out loud, and to find some more, and believe you me, she will. After all of that, it goes to my editor for some more. When I get it back to make the corrections, sometimes I do find some more that my wife and I missed, and even the editor. I just think that my stories are SOOO good that they get into the book and can’t stop reading, and blow right passed the mistakes. (Is that the right, passed, past, pass??? I am sure someone will notice.) All I am saying is, you can’t edit enough when doing it yourself. Heck, I even have to make corrections in Daniel Peters, Ace Reporter; B-29 Found, before placing it back on the market. A book that has been published and edited twice by professionals, and has been on the market for three years until the contract came to an end, and the vanity pub cancelled it. PULLED IT OFF, instead of transferring it over. Thanks for nothing, Fulton Books. Oh, I mean, Thanks for taking my money, and not doing anything. DON’T get me started. I know I may have some mistakes, but get off the high horse and just enjoy the great story. Simple mistakes many people blow right by anyway, unless you think you are perfect. Well, you aren’t. There was only one man who was, and he has the holes in his hands and feet to prove it. Thanks for reading my rant, and keep watch for my next book coming out soon. Just waiting for my cover concept. Check out my many others while you wait, 17 so far. They all have great reviews, at least from readers by word of mouth, or a Face book comment if not an amazon review. Until next week, have fun, and stay safe. Rick Kurtis Books, and PJ Richards
